What cars do you guys have?

Hey,
I kind of got curious about what kind of cars you guys have. *Shrugs*

My dad has a '96 Camry(

) and a '03 Sienna (double
frown.gif
).
We might purchase an Acura TL, an Infiniti G35 or an Acura MDX soon. (the G35 might be ruled out though, becuase of some mechanical defects - so basically we're deciding on a Car (TL) or an SUV (MDX))

I'm not a big fan of BMW's as they're totally overpriced (by about $7k or $8k, in some cases - even more!). I mean - for ~$39,000 you get a 187hp 5 series with virtually no options except leather ;p. Their styling appeals to me.

VW: Boring looking. They're also a bit overpriced
Audi: Cool looking, but they've got a VW flavor (they are owned by VW) to them and they're quite common
Lexus - The majority of their cars are aimed for old people, but their cars are nice (but overpriced)
Acura - ;D. My fav (I like all their cars except for the NSX (TERRIBLY OVERPRICED - ~$90,000 and you get a V6 ~290hp car!) and the RL (for old people lol) - well priced (except for the NSX

Honda - Great reliability, great price, excellent resale value, great car (wish we bought the Accord rather than the Camry at that time.. but I wouldn't have known that this was the car that would appeal to my tastes back when i was like.. 6)
Toyota - ... eh, we own 2 and we haven't had good luck with 'em(radiator leaked twice within 20k miles, braking problems, eh.. you can't find any good modding kits for them

Well - tehre is 1 more thing: I'm urging my parents to drive the Camry until it dies so that when (actually the better word is if ;p) I get my license next year, the car will be dead before I get it ;p. Ah cmon - seriously, I don't want to drive a Camry, and there's no way I'll drive a minivan!


Heh, basically I like Honda/Acura (Acura is the honda luxury division in the US)
The Acura TSX = European Honda Accord. And I honestly think that European cars are overpriced and underpowered (look at benz - i mean you can't get a CD PLAYER standard for the S600 (i think) which is over 100,000.. or that could have been a rumor

You won't be happy of me.

I have a Kia Sephia 2000. No cd player. But I have conditionned air with a good sound system (original but it's not crap). No mod on this one. I'll wait to have enough money to buy me a Honda and upgrade it a little bit.
 
I sold hondas, mazdas and toyotas in a previous life. . . interesting story here, but I have not the time. . .

I think the TL is the sweetest out of the bunch, though I have been known to swoon for an E-Class MB.

Keep in mind, the only thing you ever have to pay for in a BMW is the price of the car, insurance tax and fuel. as all maintainence is included in the price for the first 5 years.

Not taking into account resale, after 5 years, BMW probably has the lowest cost of ownership in the 35k-45k range.

If you like the looks. . . its worth the money. the price of the car is only one part of its cost.

Taking into account resale, you cant beat the TL for total cost of ownership.

Accord is a great car, just dull in appearance. camry is dull in ride.

be careful in leases.

I drive an old lexus 300es. bought it used. it was the best I could find in the range I was shopping at the time. I love it (for what it is) but I wouldn't buy it new.

Myself, I am looking to buy the TL new next year as I dont care for the Bimmers look. I cant stand SUV's.

I have a Ford F-150 2004 truck I bought at a local auction for only 6000 fully loaded..some bozo couldnt pay his bill so they repo'd it and i got lucky :D
 
First car was a Jeep Cherokee sold illegally in California as "used but no accidents" because it was in a major accident in Texas. I did searches on it but strangley enough it had no accidents in California (I wonder why). It was my fault almost. First car, but I knew cars in CA keep their plates from owner to owner, but it had none. That meant that it either had personalized plates (owners keep those) or it was from out of state.

Turns out it had been in a major accident... not enough to total it, but enough to shift the frame of the Jeep and prevent the alignment from ever holding for more than 2 weeks. Strange how you can get used to driving a car holding the steering wheel at a 45% degree angle because if you let go you'd fling into oncomming traffic :D

Since then I've had an '89 Oldsmobile, '86 Sentra (I could smell the rice burning as it strained to get up inclines with my tubby butt driving. A waste of a car IMO).

I had a '93 saturn which was pretty neat until it's tranny died. I hate new cars. The mechanics all laughed at me when I asked for an estimate for fixing it. Back in the day, you fixed a car. Now after 4-5 years it's often cheaper to junk it or sell it to a schmoe and get a new one. Sad.

I currently have a '96 Voyager. The ultimate in Soccer Mom Style :D
 
Glad you didn't mention Dodge. My first "new" car was a Dodge Neon (back in '95, first year they came out). It worked great for me, no problems. After 5 years I sold it to get a Civic and BAM! when I saw the resale value I knew I had something to learn about cars :)

I first had a Volvo 340 1.7, ugly car, but loads of room in the back! And the 1.7 slaughtered my friends Nova's and still cost less on insurance.

Second car was a Pug 205, bit slow, but handled like its on rails. Great fun to drive.

My current car is a Rover 200, nice comfortable, quite fast, bit flabby round corners though - but still probably handles far better than most things in the US :) Looking at getting either an old MR2, Celica, Porsche 944 next.
 
As Joe Mamma already said you can't really compare prices.
German cars usually have a much better record than american. I'm not saying this because I'm german but I work at DC and they can easily compare statistics.
Japanese cars got to an equal and sometimes better degree of quality but they tend to copy design (look how Lexus tried to copy the mercedes look).
I'd go for a 500SL if I could chose.

Kia is the best. It can go faster than a snail on turbo.

No joke... it's my first car and... it's still running. Well... I'll have to look at the engine. Too hot in the traffic.
 
Heh. Kia eh? It's a good car for that price range.

But I don't like the fact that they copy EVERY SINGLE car company ;p. Look at the new amanti:

(The grille looks like a Jaguar grille, and the lights are either oversized Jaguar lights or E-class lights with a twist), and the lights in the back sort of look like the V12 Vanquish o_O. This isn't the only car that does that :p, Hyundai does it plenty of times.

Yeah I agree. It looks like a Benz (jag... don't think but It have the Benz look).

But... on the other side... having the Benz look for 25,000$ ... seems good no ? :p lol

For now... I'm not full of $$$... so I'll keep with cheap car with good look for the range of price under 20,000$. (Sephia was 12,000$ and I had it at 4500$)
 
Whats the driving age here in America its 16 right? (its 15 back home - buit then we can vote AND DRINK at 18). How are you going to afford a brand new car Pent? When I was 15 I coudln't even afford a banged up $200 car... let alone the petrol to drive anywhere...
 
I'm 20 and I just finished "cegep" (well.. I'm in Quebec... must be an equiv to some Universities or I don't know...).

I'm not wealthy but I wanted a car to see my girlfriend that live a little far. Well.. what love do...

lol sam, im not getting a new car.. my parents are :D, so if our car dies by then, its possible that i could drive it to school :rolleyes: (man oh man i wish, a 270hp V6 TL with nav............*daydreams and drifts off*..........)

edit: Yeah its 16 ;p

What piss me off... is young boy of 16 to 19 that have a brand new car like an ACURA RSX all equiped with "to die" sound system and that have just been washed. How could they afford that ? Rich parents. :mad:

I didn't had a car until 20 (1 month or two) and they go beside me with music so loud that it could make their car fall into pieces. :D

Well... I'll have to be patient until I have the car of my dream.

Its Acura RSX :D. <- my dream car for under $20,000.. modded with Mugen :D (drifts off again ... daydreams ...)
 
I have a 2004 Dodge Neon SXT. Runs pretty good. Cheaper than my last truck on gas and payments. It was a 2001 Chevy Silverado. Never again will I buy chevy. I am currently looking for an old beater truck to haul the dirtbike and goto Lowes or Home Depot. And I also have a Yamaha FZR600.
 
My mom drives a Lincoin, and well im young and most of my friends love sports cars but me I prefer the comfort of a Lincoin..that car is the "pimp" mobile. So relaxing to drive in etc..
