bizzydint Posted October 24, 2003 Posted October 24, 2003 Not sure this belongs in this thread (or even at this forum!) - so apologies if I'm wrong! We connect to our server using Remote Desktop. However, we are currently experiencing connection problems (to the internet in general) and therefore keep losing our remote DT connection. BUT if you then try to log in again, it wont let you because it *think* the connection is still open and you have to wait for it to timeout (apparently 3 hours ish!). Does anyone know how to change this timeout time? Waiting 3 hours to get back onto the server isnt exactly workable! cheers, van. *Experts* Nerseus Posted October 24, 2003 *Experts* Posted October 24, 2003 I believe this is set through the Policies on the server you're attempting to log into. I can't remember the setting though. You might try searching at http://support.microsoft.com. -Ner Quote "I want to stand as close to the edge as I can without going over. *Gurus* Derek Stone Posted October 24, 2003 *Gurus* Posted October 24, 2003 Open up the management console (Start | Run | "mmc") and add the Local Computer Policy snap-in. Navigate to Computer Settings | Windows Settings | Security Settings | Local Policies | Security Options. Change the policy "Amount of idle time required before disconnecting session" to the time you want. Quote Posting Guidelines
bizzydint Posted October 27, 2003 Author Posted October 27, 2003 Didnt go through MMC (couldnt find the appropriate snap-in) - but did get there through Control Panel > Admin Tools > Local Security Policy. But that particular policy (idle time) is currently set to 15minutes. And it definitely takes much longer before we're allowed back in. But thanks for trying - anyone else got any ideas? :) Quote Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I cannot accept and the wisdom to hide the bodies of those people I had to kill today cos they pi**ed me off.
*Experts* Nerseus Posted October 27, 2003 *Experts* Posted October 27, 2003 Go the user's properties (get to the Users and Groups section of windows) and look at the Session Tab. You can override how long they're connected, when they're considered timed out, and what to do when they are (disconnect or end session). There might be a more global setting, but I'm not much of an Admin - at least it's a place to start trying :) -Ner Quote "I want to stand as close to the edge as I can without going over.
