Moderators Robby Posted September 10, 2003 Moderators Posted September 10, 2003 What's vb6.net ? Quote Visit...Bassic Software
*Experts* mutant Posted September 10, 2003 *Experts* Posted September 10, 2003 Apache cant run ASP.NET, if you want to use .net web apps the server must have .NET Framework installed. Quote
*Experts* Volte Posted September 10, 2003 *Experts* Posted September 10, 2003 And it must have IIS (Internet Information Server) running. Quote
neodammer Posted September 10, 2003 Author Posted September 10, 2003 sorry ment vb.net, anyway just in your opinion how hard is setting up windows server in conparison with apache? apache is fairly easy. Peace Quote Enzin Research and Development
*Experts* Volte Posted September 10, 2003 *Experts* Posted September 10, 2003 VB.NET itself is not a server-side preprocessor technology. ASP.NET is, and it uses the .NET framework languages such as VB.NET. You still use VB.NET to program it. Perhaps we are misunderstanding you. Quote
neodammer Posted September 10, 2003 Author Posted September 10, 2003 no no , you answered my question thanks. Would you consider php the alternative to vb.net in terms of accesibility? Quote Enzin Research and Development
*Experts* Volte Posted September 10, 2003 *Experts* Posted September 10, 2003 It's all a matter of preference. However, .NET is more flexible than ASP.NET, but PHP is more widely supported (though that is beginning to change). Quote
neodammer Posted September 10, 2003 Author Posted September 10, 2003 php is basicaly another javascript without sql. Is vb.net similar? Does it need sql for databases? Quote Enzin Research and Development
wyrd Posted September 10, 2003 Posted September 10, 2003 Erm, eh? PHP is nothing like Javascript. PHP can also use MySQL and SQL Server. .NET can use just about any database. Quote Gamer extraordinaire. Programmer wannabe.
neodammer Posted September 10, 2003 Author Posted September 10, 2003 ack you mistunderstood me, i worded it wrong sorry, what i ment was php cant do much more than javascript in my experience with it unless it has sql. Php is easier to write than javascript imo. But was wondering if VB.net can create databases on its own? Quote Enzin Research and Development
*Experts* Volte Posted September 10, 2003 *Experts* Posted September 10, 2003 Javascript is client side, PHP is server side. They are nothing alike. And yes, VB.NET has full control over databases (creating, modifying, etc). Quote
neodammer Posted September 10, 2003 Author Posted September 10, 2003 hmm, your right didnt think of that. Well ill end this one with a final question. Do you know a good book on vb.net ? Quote Enzin Research and Development
irasmith Posted September 21, 2003 Posted September 21, 2003 Well, even though I'm a newcomer to this board and subject matter I'll add my two cents worth. I will be ordering sometime today Beginning VB.NET as well as the standard VB.NET software. From what I can tell of the book writeup in the link, it would seem to be the way to go since it is geared for newcomers to VB.NET and you can use the standard version of VB.NET to work through the book. Hope this helps. Ira Quote Ira Richard Smith IraRichardSmith.Net
