Viperchief Posted September 6, 2003 Posted September 6, 2003 Ok, I need to know if I should migrate to vb.net, I know how to use VB 6.0 Fairly Well. I need to know the pros' and cons' of vb.net over vb 6.0. Quote
neodatatype Posted September 6, 2003 Posted September 6, 2003 Really simplyment: VB.NET is moooore flexible than VB, really object oriented and VB is no longer supported by Microsoft. If you have old VB6 project it is hard to port it to VB.NET (also if they say that it can be done...), but if you start now with new projects you should do them with .NET. Viperchief Posted September 6, 2003 Author Posted September 6, 2003 also, I installed the framework, and I CANT find the ide? where is it? Quote
wyrd Posted September 6, 2003 Posted September 6, 2003 There's only one VB.NET IDE, which you can find at the store. Quote Gamer extraordinaire. Programmer wannabe.
*Experts* mutant Posted September 6, 2003 *Experts* Posted September 6, 2003 I would suggest you to migrate, Object Orientation is really one of the most useful things you will ever have in programming and VB.NET is fully OOP. And the wealth of classes in the Framework is all worth it. If you are looking for an IDE and dont want to use VS.NET there is a free one: http://www.icsharpcode.net Quote
wyrd Posted September 7, 2003 Posted September 7, 2003 SharpDevelop doesn't offer much support for VB.NET (ie; no GUI interface for forms and controls). Quote Gamer extraordinaire. Programmer wannabe.
Viperchief Posted September 7, 2003 Author Posted September 7, 2003 I have Visual Studio Enterprise Edition, Is there anyway to upgrade that? Quote
wyrd Posted September 7, 2003 Posted September 7, 2003 Yes, go to the store and buy the upgrade. Quote Gamer extraordinaire. Programmer wannabe.
quahog Posted September 10, 2003 Posted September 10, 2003 The problem is you are 2 versions back. They used to offer an upgrade from vb6 to vbstudio2002 but they are on vbstudio03 now. You may to want to check these web pages for deals. Otherwise, the academic version is very cheap if you can hook up with a student. http://shop.microsoft.com/devtools/default.asp The current upgrade offer http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/howtobuy/upgrade/vstudio03/ Quote when the day is bad and life's a curse, cheer up tomorrow may be worse.
