This forum software has never worked right for me. It is always thinking threads are unread when they have been (even when mine is the last post) OR thinking that I've read threads that I haven't.

I've kind of gotten used to it by now though :)

I have noticed recently that the little icons in the left hand column do seem to work as you would expect. Its just the large blue "new post" buttons that remain when they shouldn't.

I always use the Last Poster/Last Post Times marker as my new

post indicator; never use the little red icons (however, the little

open/closed envelope beside threads is accurate, so that's useful).

BTW, congratulations on your new EVB status lebb! :)

I have had very little problem with the mark forum as read on this

site/version of Vb. It isn't supposed to mark individual threads as

read just because you read them (at least it never has at any

time for me). But when I mark a forum as read, it resets all the

posts as read.

But it does in fact mark them as read when you've read them. The envelope icon changes from open to closed.

As far as I know, the threads do get marked as read properly, but the "go to first new post" button (that's what you're referring to, Banjo?) seems to take you to the first new post since the last time you logged in or marked all forums read. I think it has always worked this way, whether by design or mistake. ;)

I have seen it happen. I also notice that if I reply to a thread and then go back to the main page all threads will be marked read.

I have found that this is not a problem with vbulletin but is a problem with browser settings. I have experimented and if you have the option to check for new versions of a page set to always the problem exists. Setting it to auto or once a session cures it.

Laura has now explained to me what she is talking about. I have

always looked at the first unread post arrow as the sign whether

a thread is read or not. I have never looked at the envelopes as

to whether they are open or closed. I see now that they close.

Bob, i have noticed that if i dont login into my account and use the forumas guest, i cannot see some of the threads, i just freaked out when i was browsing the forum to check if there was any reply to my post, my thread was gone only to realize later after i logged in that it was still there. In simple words if a person does not login u see diff posts and after u login u see diff posts. Iam using the lite blue style set.

I think I've seen this too, although I've only seen it associated with the poll threads... if someone votes, the blue (new post) icon shows up and the person who last posted in the thread has their name on, but the last time is indicated by the vote time... IMO.

Yeah, I did too. I only recently noticed the envelopes.

You may remember me complaining about this when we originally switched to vBulletin. I completely missed the envelopes was just looking at the big blue arrow as an indicator of read status.

How funny. I have only recently started using the arrows; before that, the opened/closed envelopes are all I paid attention to. :)

This is by design (and a fairly recent change), so you can tell when someone has voted on a poll.
