This blasted XML!

OK I now really do need to get into this XML stuff but for some reason I just don't get it:(

 

I'm reading two different sections in two different VB.Net books which explain it differently but they are leaving out some basic stuff I obviuosly need.

 

Could any one here point me to a good up to date book or web site that covers XML for a complete "I know nothing about XML" beginner?
