atesh Posted August 4, 2003 Posted August 4, 2003 After switching from VB6 to .NET just last week, I've found that .NET is quite foreign to me. So I thought this is probably the best place to find out VB.NET users' opinions on what the best VB.NET book to buy is. Thanks for any recommendations in advance. *Experts* mutant Posted August 4, 2003 *Experts* Posted August 4, 2003 If you want book beyong basics it really depends on what you want to concentrate on when using VB.NET. For example datbases, controls etc. None of the overall VB.NET books cover specific topics in enough detail. Quote
KenpoMatt Posted August 6, 2003 Posted August 6, 2003 I've had some luck with a book called "Essential ASP.Net with Examples in Visual Basic.Net." The author is Fritz Onion, published by Addison-Wesley. They also offer this same book in a C# version. I used this book to help myself migrate from VB6 to .Net. Good luck. Quote
quahog Posted August 6, 2003 Posted August 6, 2003 I like the O'Reilly series but I agree with Mutant. O'Reilly has samples of their books online. Below is one of their vb.net links. http://www.ondotnet.com/pub/a/dotnet/excerpt/progvisbasic_ch08-2/index.html Quote when the day is bad and life's a curse, cheer up tomorrow may be worse.
*Experts* Bucky Posted August 6, 2003 *Experts* Posted August 6, 2003 I have the Visual Basic .NET Bible, and it is a great resource for beginning VB.NET and learning all the new concepts. It only dabbles in other subjects of the .NET framework, though, so once you learn the new syntax and concepts in this bookyou may want to move into more goal-specific, language-neutral concepts the .NET framework provides, like Mutant mentioned.
