Any ideas for Programs To make?

I'm really interrested in Visual Basic. I've had it for a while now, and and I'm trying to think of a good program to make.

 

I'm no expert or pro, I'm a newbie. But I can't think of anything to test my skillz with.

 

I know most simple commands and stuff and have previouse programming experience with qbasic and such simple languages.

 

Any ideas would be cool :P

I don't know if you're interested in game programming. But try learning DirectX 9.

if your looking for something to program that is easy, try making a text oriented program. have it move text to one textbox to antoher, change colors, changes back colors, easy stuff like that is a cool thing to start with

Or try to make a front-end for console apps,

Like i'm working on a front-end for apache,

And did a few in the past with vb6.

what about a simple databse program like an inventory program or a interest calculator. those are the programs they always have you write in computer classes

the first "project" for vb(6) was a calculator, first it was a 2 screen(textbox) calculator, but then i figured out how to make it with 1 textbox, choose something like one of these:

 

Pong - 2 paddles, you control both(or u could build AI) and u have to hit the ball back and forth

Whack a moe - random moe's(moles - i used moe from the Simpsons random moe's appear on the form and u have to click on them, they go faster and faster

calculator - i would do this one first

how about a phone book/contact manager - store emails, phone numbers, birthdays etc

You guys have inspired me to make a Clan Manager.

 

It's for a game called Counter-Strike and it helps you keep track of your members, their "Wonid" witch is critical in the game and location, name.. Lots of stuff.

Now there's a good idea. :) Good game to write a program for too. CS is the best FPS to ever exist. :P

Maybe for now, wyrd. But through my handy-dandy time machine I went forward 5 years (or was it 15?) and saw a nifty game titled "wyrd's wonderful world of wacky worms", and IT was the best FPT ever. I would have gone farther ahead to see if there was a version 2, but I got hungry and came back to present time to get a taco.

 

So, keep plugging away and maybe you can upset Valve for the next best FPS!
