alp0001 Posted July 11, 2003 Posted July 11, 2003 I noticed that at this .net site, the post count goes up for a member when one posts in Random Thoughts. Over at http://www.visualbasicforum.com, the post count doesn't increase in the same forum (been that way for quite a long time). Just curious as to why it is allowed here and not the other. Anyways, have a good day. :D ALP Quote My name in binary (from ASCII): 01000001011001000110000101101101 010100000110010101110100011100100110100101100101

alp0001 Posted July 11, 2003 Author Posted July 11, 2003 Yes, but why not implemented here? I thought one of the reasons was to deter members from starting silly threads (probably like this one :p ). Moderators Robby Posted July 11, 2003 Moderators Posted July 11, 2003 Things have been in control here and no one seems to waste posts just to increase their count, besides, we will implement the new version of the forum software here in the near future. Quote Visit...Bassic Software
wyrd Posted July 11, 2003 Posted July 11, 2003 Why would someone post just to increase their post count? Quote Gamer extraordinaire. Programmer wannabe.

*Experts* Volte Posted July 12, 2003 *Experts* Posted July 12, 2003 The system of ranking's (Junior Contributor, Contributor, etc) seems to cause people to post like maniacs to get a new title. Not that I ever experienced that, of course..... ;) In theory, eliminating the ranking bit might eliminate that particular flavour of spam, but some people would just find another reason to spam. wyrd Posted July 12, 2003 Posted July 12, 2003 You could just remove the ranking and number of posts all together. :P Quote Gamer extraordinaire. Programmer wannabe.
*Experts* Volte Posted July 12, 2003 *Experts* Posted July 12, 2003 Post count is good to keep for statistical purposes, and it is always nice to know how much you have contributed. :) We don't have much trouble with it, and what little we may have... well, that's why we have moderators. :p Quote
