Which one is better? ASP or ASP.Net

Hi. I just joined into this forum with recommendation from my friend. Currently I'm studying in college and I have a project which is to create an web application called "Job Placement System". I was wondering whether to use ASP or ASP.Net? So now I need guidance as I have 0% knowledge in both languages. Can someone tell me or guide me which language to use and how to use it in an efficient way? Besides, I need to finish this project ASAP. Or is there any other languages which are effective and easy to use?

You can't really label one language better than another. In your case both will do the job rather nicely.

 

If you want my biased opinion though, use ASP.NET.

ASP.NET forces better programming practices, offers more features, and is the newest kid on the block.

if it is talking about simple to code and time limitation, does ASP.Net has the advantage of it??

Once you fully understand the development style used in ASP.NET things tend to be produced at a slightly faster rate than ASP. As a beginner though, you'll most likely feel the opposite is true. Then again, that's how it goes with every language.

What to read?

 

First let me start off by saying that this is a gerat forum. I ran into it by total luck while doing a search in Google for some VB/Excel help. Congrats to the Admins and the MODS for a great learning tool.

 

Now, to my point...Derek, what do you recommend I read to start learning ASP.NET. I have programming experience, but none in ASP or ASP.NET. I want a well versed, easy to read and follow book or online tutorial. Obviously good real-world examples and hands-on activities is a plus.

I've never read a book or tutorial on programming before, as I learn quite differently than most. I'm going to be of no help.
