When I have completed my puzzle game how easy is it to get it out to the public domain?

I am not overly bothered about earning from it, as I get more of a buzz knowing my name is in lights..(gee will I go to heaven mommy?) :D

I do not have a web site but apparently I have some free web space through my ISP, but have no idea how to use it, set up a page or anything like that.

Does anybody have any ideas to share with me?

Also would the fact I need to direct people to install the .NET Framework be a put off.

Thnx

The .NET framework thing might be a put off, but it's worth the risk.

Just stick any old website up, but make sure google finds it. Also, add a link to it from anywhere you consider relevant, a games programming site for example.

Thanks Divil, problem is I haven't a clue how to do what you say as the web site thingy is a complete unknow to me. I wouldn't even know how to find my so called free web space on BT Internet as I can never get anyone there to answer the phone!!

Hog, please.

Being an expert at something. Choose at what you are going to excell at, that is all good. But a bit of allrounder qualities would suit any advanced computer user.

Get some free webspace from tripod or any free provider. Learn a bit of HTML by doing macromedia dreamweaver tutorials, etc.

Then if you think of getting professional, or at least looking professional claim your own domain, host a advanced site (advertising, flash is a good option) http://www.hogpuzzlemania is available.

I have found this site

http://oneandone.co.uk

It allows you to register a domain name for £1.99 a year

Does anyone have any experience of this sort of thing and could they advise if it is a good idea to opt for just registering the domanin name or should I go for their package that give you web space, software etc. If I just got the domian name how would I go about using it? if I don't buy one of their packages?

soory if these are dumb question just trying to save a lot of reading time if someone already knows a quick answer....thnx

I've always found http://www.webmonkey.com to be a good resource for web programming (back when I was doing it). You should check it out if you're looking for beginner tutorials.

EDIT:

Worry about a domain later, phone your ISP and ask them about what sort of web space they give to their users (assuming they give you anyway)

OK I get what you say wyrd, thanks. However would it be wise therefore to buy my domain name to secure it? As it would only be £1.99 a year it would break the bank would it?

I have a domain already, and it is an incentive to work on your site, so you can show everybody what you are doing.

perks of your own domain are : receiving email at your domain !

Be sure that you check with the host if they support scripting, asp or whatever you may need later on

I must agree so I did it, I've bought my own domain name and starter package to get something up and running, £1.99 a year for the name and £1.99 pm for the starter pack.

When I have something there I'll let you know what it is, if your interested??

What is £1.99 in U.S. currency?

.. and yeah, we want to see your site when it's finished.

.....$3.19!

I was amazed at the price. I get my own domain name for $3.19 per year. Then $3.19 per month for 8 web pages, 15 email address, online/telephone support and the use of online web creating software that creates my site in easy steps. No html training or anything.

This will do me for starters to get me out there quickly, then I'll look into html and the rest if I get a big enough kick out of having my own site.

http://www.discountASP.net is a hosting site ($10/mo.) specifically setup for ASP and .Net developers. You can even put your custom DLLS created by .NET in a bin directory. Also 50 MB of SQL Server space available for $10/mo extra. Finding a web host that will host your custom dll is rare. Can also connect to Access Db's (if you care to).
