I was at some Visual studio training at an academic conference a while back. The professor presenting the training got the third degree from others for not using Java. Is there a language war like Mac versus PC? I tell my students to be ready to adapt to your organization and not get locked in to one language. Am I wrong?

It sounds like you are a little wiser than those whiny Java fanboys. Each language has its advantages and disadvantages, and each programmer and company has its own preference. It's fine to prefer one over another, but that doesn't mean that you should boycott any.

3rd degree from other presenters or other attendees?

I agree with marble_eater: you should recognize that each programming language has its strengths and weaknesses. Ultimately, people become biased because maybe they've used only one language or use one language primarily.

Well, there is kind of a 'three-way dispute' between VB, C++, and Java. However, I find that it's mostly VB vs C++ and C++ vs Java. Not much VB on Java bashing... I find a lot of language bashing involves C++ guys... but let's not start!

One of my coworkers thinks that I believe that drawing bullets is the most efficient way of drawing bullets. Whatever!!! :-(
