Hello,

I want to get a web based application developed by some programmers but am not sure which tool to use: VB.NET or ASP or PHP or ???

Can someone please recommend and help me understand the difference between (VB.NET or ASP or PHP or others) and which are the benefits.

The back-end database will probably be SQL server or oracle.

Will be very thankful for your help and reply.

Thanks.

Is ASP.NET and VB.NET basically one and the same thing? Or are they 2 different (but somewhat similar - maybe???) programming languages? Sorry if this a stupid question.

Also can you/someone please help me decide between MS-Sql Server versus MYSQL.

  1. All I have heard is that the cost of MYSQL is significantly lower but that's about it. I don't know how much price difference we are talking about. Can someone help in this regard?
  2. Is MYSQL basically a run-down version of MS-SQL server?
  3. What is the name of the company that develops MYSQL?
  4. Which features of MS-SQL server are not available in MYSQL?
  5. Any additional information which can help me decide between MS-SQL Server versus MYSQL will be very much appreciated

Thanks.

ASP.Net is really the web development part of .Net and can be developed in any .Net language - effectively you can treat ASP.Net and VB.Net as being one and the same.
