MrPaul Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Can the advert listings which are now inside posts be modified so that they appear above or below the post itself, rather than alongside? Posts are squashed and it makes code extremely difficult to read properly. Horizontal space tends to be at a premium. See screenshot below. Leaders snarfblam Posted July 23, 2008 Leaders Posted July 23, 2008 I've never seen one of these ads before. All I'm getting is the banner up top and the box on the right (the same when I'm logged in and not). Quote [sIGPIC]e[/sIGPIC]
MrPaul Posted July 25, 2008 Author Posted July 25, 2008 Threads with ads I figured they were probably intended to be seen by unregistered users, but somehow I'm seeing them in certain threads. Here's a few I've been able to find just now: A Question about Hashtable Form Designer oddities: "Custom" TextBox GetExtension Even if they are just for unregistered users, they should still be placed above or below posts, rather than alongside. Leaders snarfblam Posted July 25, 2008 Leaders Posted July 25, 2008 Re: Threads with ads Huh. I hadn't seen any of those until just now, but there they are. Well, I certainly find that to be a problem. Quote [sIGPIC]e[/sIGPIC]
Nate Bross Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 I second (or third?) that. Quote ~Nate ___________________________________________ Please use the [vb]/[cs] tags on posted code. Please post solutions you find somewhere else. Follow me on Twitter here.

mskeel Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Did you hear that? That was the sound of this message board being flushed down the toilet thanks to too many ads. Quote
joe_pool_is Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Thanks for saying something about that, MrPaul. I've noticed them for a while and just assumed it was something we had to live with to get the message board. I'm ok with the ads - sometimes they are even helpful! But I don't like having to work around them quite that much. Quote Avoid Sears Home Improvement
Nate Bross Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 I don't mind them either, but since they squash the code blocks it makes it difficult to use [see attached] Even if they were taking up the entire first few rows that would be fine, I don't mind reading them and scrolling down to the content... I just don't like horizontal scrolling... Quote ~Nate ___________________________________________ Please use the [vb]/[cs] tags on posted code. Please post solutions you find somewhere else. Administrators PlausiblyDamp Posted August 18, 2008 Administrators Posted August 18, 2008 Surely the relevance of the ads make up for the inconvenience, after all if you are writing code to take a screen shot then you are almost guaranteed to want a new screen saver and a reel of bailing cord... joe_pool_is Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 I was just know wondering where I could find me some good bailing cord, too! Thanks Nate! Quote Avoid Sears Home Improvement
Nate Bross Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 The arrows were intended to illustrate the side by side nature of the ads as opposed to the stacked block style that I find much more readable [and apparently from this thread I'm not the only one ;)].
