SteveoAtilla Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 AAARGHHH!!! I'm sick of fighting with this!!! I've got a small web site for a customer, and they want to enforce roles-based security on two pages in that site. Add "location" tags to the Web.config file, right??? Well, when I try to use the file below, I get the "Server Application Unavailable" message. When I revert back to a more normal .config file, it works, but without the security the customer wants. What do I have wrong in there? Thanks. Here's the file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <configuration> <system.web> <!-- DYNAMIC DEBUG COMPILATION Set compilation debug="true" to insert debugging symbols (.pdb information) into the compiled page. Because this creates a larger file that executes more slowly, you should set this value to true only when debugging and to false at all other times. For more information, refer to the documentation about debugging ASP.NET files. --> <compilation defaultLanguage="vb" debug="true" /> <!-- CUSTOM ERROR MESSAGES Set customErrors mode="On" or "RemoteOnly" to enable custom error messages, "Off" to disable. Add <error> tags for each of the errors you want to handle. "On" Always display custom (friendly) messages. "Off" Always display detailed ASP.NET error information. "RemoteOnly" Display custom (friendly) messages only to users not running on the local Web server. This setting is recommended for security purposes, so that you do not display application detail information to remote clients. --> <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" /> <!-- AUTHENTICATION This section sets the authentication policies of the application. SteveoAtilla Posted June 26, 2006 Author Posted June 26, 2006 Thanks. I had put that in to see if that was the problem. It acts the same with them in there as not. Administrators PlausiblyDamp Posted June 26, 2006 Administrators Posted June 26, 2006 Also try putting the location elements outside of the system.web element. Quote Posting Guidelines FAQ Post Formatting Intellectuals solve problems; geniuses prevent them. -- Albert Einstein
