travisowens Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 When I use VS2k3 to access a network folder I get lockups that are around 60 secs PER FOLDER. This means if I access a server that I have mapped to my Q: drive, accessing the drive via VS2k3 takes 60 secs, and then when I double click a folder I have to wait another 60 secs. It smells like a timeout issue. Please note the problem relates to VS2k3 specifically because I can access the drive and folders quickly from My Computer, worst case scenario is when I access a server for the first time, it takes upto 10 secs to load the root directory but after that, every folder is instant. In case anybody wants to know I have a 100mbit connection and the servers are on gigabit, running Win 2000 /w all patches and Win 2003 /w all patches. I get the same exact slow response on both servers. Please note VS2k3 is the only program on my PC that has this problem. I have Googled the issue and found nothing usefull but I did find a related issue to the first time VS2k3 is opened and their problem was to flush the Office "recent file" list which I did and it did not help at all. Any insight is greatfully appreciated and I'm not going to take "Re-Install VS" as a valid suggestion :) Currently my only work around is to find the folder via My Computer and copy & paste the path into VS2k3 with the filename at the end, and there is no 60 timeout when opening a file. travisowens Posted September 14, 2005 Author Posted September 14, 2005 ! FIX ! It seems I have fixed this unique problem by using the same solution for a tangent WinXP network folder slowdown, even though 'My Computer' folder browsing was fine. In a nutshell I just had to go to "My Network Places" and delete all the entries in there. Now my performance is nearly instant on network drives. I discovered this fix by reading: http://www.ss64.com/nt/slow_browsing.html Quote Experience is something you don't get until just after the moment you needed it
