Don't use the "Microsoft Way " to do visualstyles, as they are inherently broken.

 

Tab pages are just one symptom. Microsoft kinda 'hacked' the functionality in, from what I've seen.

 

I would *thoroughly* recommend using the VisualStyles DLL from http://www.skybound.ca instead - it will actually work properly in all cases (and its free!)
