Visual Studio 2005 may slip to 2006 !?!

UPDATE: MS has just had a press release moments ago where they say VS2005 will be available Nov 7th, 2005 (along with SQL Server 2005 and BizTalk 2006). So it seems the leak from Borland is either a big assumption/rumor. But I'm not too happy yet, as this won't be the first time MS has slipped on a date. I hope this date is for real.

 

 

Ok maybe this is the wrong place to post news items but I think people should hear this rumor from a MS partner...

 

Shipment of the much-delayed upgrade to Microsoft�s tools platform, code-named �Whidbey,� may slip again into next year, according to Marc Brown, director of product marketing at Microsoft ISV partner Borland Software. From what Borland hears from Microsoft, the Visual Studio 2005 suite will ship either at the end of this year or at the beginning of 2006, Brown said.

Here's my $.02..

Umm if MS doesn't release VS2005 this fall I'm going to go berzerk as .Net contains some features (particularly updates in ASP.Net) that should have been in .Net 1.0.

 

Although considering VS2005 isn't even in RC1 yet eludes that developement isn't coming as fast as we all hoped.

Anyway, I hope this isn't ture. Winsupersite still lists Whidbey as Mid-2005.

Winsupersite is an awesome site, but somebody working with the VS2005 team would provide more accurate info than an outsider.

 

BTW, VS2005 isn't arriving anywhere near "mid" 2005, if you look at your calendar we're already at mid 2005 and MS hasn't even hit RC1, much less RC2 or RC3. This shows how inaccurate Winsupersite is for this type of info.

 

The more I think about this, the more I realize there's no way VS2005 will be finished before xmas 2005.
