anthony Posted July 25, 2002 Posted July 25, 2002 I have been using vb .net standard edition for about five months and have found everything rather easy.Ive had no problem setting up an access database with the oledbconnection on my own local computer. It should be easy right?and it is. For the first time ive tried connecting to a database on a server and it hasnt been working. Does anybody know if the vb .net standard edition can connect to a remote server?I know the standard edition doesnt have server explorer nodes that the professional edition does. Its getting me *#*#!!!! If anybody knows anything please reply Thanx Anthony Quote

anthony Posted July 25, 2002 Author Posted July 25, 2002 TO Thinker The whole Thing is ,if microsoft didnt want remote computer database use with the vb standard edition then why did they include all the web datagrids and such?I upgraded to windows xp just to use the vb net. If microsoft were more clear about things in the first place I would of just kept my windows 98(saving money) and gone with borland C++. Anotherv thing you cant upgrade the vb standard edition. It just seems microsoft are out for the corporate ticket, not unlike nike. What might be an idea for self employmrent is to go with a language like python. There would probably be thousands more(and cheaper )webhosts. It might be ideal to write web applications for smaller businesses. .net?
