Hey,

I'm using XP Home, and I'm wondering where I download IIS from. Is it a requirement that I use IIS (I'm planning to start ASP.NET) I heard it is very insecure. Are there any other options out for me besides IIS?

Thanks,

Hope this helps...

Hi <PentiumGuy>, as far as I know, Windows XP Home doesnt bring the IIS, actually IIS (Internet Information Server) Is built in the systema and comes with Windows XP Professional which is essentially destined for Developers. In contrast, Windows XP Home is not. (Im not saying XP Home sukks, it actually has many cool features missing in Pro like EFS, NTFS perm control but I really dont know much about that). :D

... however, did you guess it? There are workarounds.. Try the following link

Other options are the Apache Web server.. but I prefer to stick with everything that comes from Microsoft... Is that a good Idea? Time will tell!

Let me know if you solve the problem!!! ;)

Eek, I'm not willing to risk anything from those instructions, sorry :).

Yeah I wanted more performance in my PC, rather than paying extra for XP Pro. I do have XP pro, but I heard that if you install XP Pro on 2 computers on the same network then ... heh... problems.

Apache it is :).

This is no the case, I have 5 computers in my apartment and 4 of them are running XP Pro, the last one is running Server 2003... I have no problems, it actually works very well!

Are you serious? Damn.

I could have spent even more money on parts instead of the +$100 on XP Home, possibly an upgrade to 3.5ghz. Oh well. Well I'm 99.9% sure that this is the case with Office, beucase my friend had this problem.

There's too much stuff on my hard drive to back up, too many programs..etc. I'll format later, but for now I'll stick with Apache.
