Has anyone run into any problems running Visual Studio 2003 and the 2005 Beta on the same machine?

Can the two peacefully coexist together and both still work?

I need to check out 2005 but I also can't lose 2003 functionality and would rather just ask really quickly here than go through the long install and find out it doesn't work. Has anyone tried this?

Thanks.

A beta is different from a CTP. Betas are tested and stable, CTPs are almost analogous WIPs.

From Microsoft:

Available Prerelease Products:

Visual Studio 2005 Professional EditionStable: June 2004 - Beta 1. Latest: December 2004 Community Technology Preview.

Visual Studio 2005 Standard EditionStable: None. Latest: November 2004 Community Technology Preview.

Visual Studio 2005 Express Editions Stable: June 2004 - Beta 1 . Latest: October 2004 Community Technical Preview.

That's not surprising since the CTP can be thought of as a release candidate for the next beta. I'd second pas's suggestion that it shouldn't be installed on your working system.

But Beta 1 should be fine...?

But Beta 1 should be no problem, yes? I really just need to check out features and assess what it will take to migrate from 2003 to 2005 (which I'd imagine would be very little but there are incompatibilites between 2002? and 2003.)

Thanks for you help..

Beta 1 is stable. But I warn you' date=' if you start using 2005 you'll never want to go back.[/quote']

Hence the main reason I've not installed it yet and all my work, now and for the next 6 months is <= 2003. Clients are seldom early adopters... :(
