kurf Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 I'm needing to install IIS on my Laptop (XP HE SP2). Can it be done? If so how? Quote
Administrators PlausiblyDamp Posted December 21, 2004 Administrators Posted December 21, 2004 You should be able to go into add / remove programs under control panel and install it from there. Although I can't remember if XP Home edition ships with IIS or not. Quote Posting Guidelines FAQ Post Formatting Intellectuals solve problems; geniuses prevent them. -- Albert Einstein
coldfusion244 Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 I'm needing to install IIS on my Laptop (XP HE SP2). Can it be done? If so how? I'm not sure about home edition but I know it's on the PRO disk. Choose add/remove and then additional components and it's under internet or something. It'll say IIS 6.0. If it's not on your home disk, borrow someone's pro disk and install it. --------------EDIT-------------- Wow plausy, i just submitted mine and yours was there! Quote -Sean
kurf Posted December 22, 2004 Author Posted December 22, 2004 Well from what I read on MS's site HEdition doesnt ship with IIS and MS also states it cant be done on HE. But iv'e seen a workaround for SP1 on HEdition, but it does not work for SP2. Was just wanting to know if anyone here knew of a workaround for SP2. Thanks for your responses!! Quote

kurf Posted December 23, 2004 Author Posted December 23, 2004 Than borrow one of your friends Pro disks and install pro... It is apparent to me that im not being clear enough. I would only like to know if there is a known workaround; as simply condoning an illegal act to get "IIS" fully functional on this laptop is not acceptable; and upgrading is not a solution for this laptop either! Thank you for your time and effort! -William, Quote
antecedents Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 Sorry for bringing back this old thread but I thought it was necessary; If you use the Express Products MS has available here VB.NET or C#; With VWexpress as well as the SQLexpress you will not need the IIS, you can also take a look at Web Matrix which comes with its own light-weight web server! ------- Quote
mark007 Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 There is a workaround. Don't know of it's legalities but I have it working on my laptop. You need a Windows 2000 CD to do it though. It should be legal in the sense of I have legal copies of WinXp Home and Win2000 Pro but who knows, it may not be. Apolgogies to the mods if this is the case! Full details can be found here: http://www.webthang.co.uk/tuts/tuts_server/iis_xph/pippo_xp.asp Personally I think it's quite incredible and annoying to say the least that you can shell out £500 for VS.Net and not be able to run half of it (ASP.Net) without XP Pro!
