mike55 Posted October 20, 2004 Posted October 20, 2004 Hi all Am trying to install SQL server 2000 on a desktop at the moment, however when i select the install database components on the install screen i get the following error: Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Enterprise server is not supported on this operating system. Only client components will be available for installation. Need to install the whole thing, any suggestions. Could it be that since the desktop is connected to the network that the problem is occuring?? Oh yea my operating system is XP pro. Administrators PlausiblyDamp Posted October 20, 2004 Administrators Posted October 20, 2004 You cannot install the Enterprise Edition on a Desktop OS, if you need SQL then either use the personal edition for a production application or if this is a development machine then you may want to consider SQL Developer edition. Mykre Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 I Agree, With most things now, MS has put restrictions on installing server products on desktop machins. In SQL Servers case the only versions that can be installed on Desktop or workstation software are the Developer, Personal and the MSDE (Microsoft SqlServer Desktop Edition). stustarz Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 I would say that if your running on a network, then its probably administration restrictions that is stopping you installing the Server on your desktop. I use XP pro and have SQL server installed in full, even though i run on a network i prefer to have a (local) server running, cause our network can get a little congested at times!
