Hi all

For those banging there heads against the wall with crystal, there is an alternative reporting tool being provided by data dynamics at http://www.datadynamics.com. The tool is: ActiveReports for .NET Support. It works very well, so far, when exporting reports to PDF, not sure about other formats. The only catch is that you have to pay for it...but so far i think it may be worth it. Am going running more tests on it, will let you know how i get on with it.

As Tamer just mentioned; SQL Server Reporting Services is a great reporting tool. I find this to be the best tool out there, you can even import your Access reports into the reporting manager (excluding any code-behind).

This book is a great read Professional SQL Server Reporting Services

Where do I find this tool????

Someone bought the SQL Server reporting thing here:

1. Is there a licensing involved ??

2. Mike55: how is http://www.datadynamics.com? any good?

I might download the trial one .. is it worth it?

Hi,

Downloaded the trial version of their reporting tool, got on pretty well with it. However was not allowed to use it in my project due to orders from the higher powers that be. But personally, if i had the money to spare I would seriously thing about buying the licence for it. Furthermore I felt that the support provided by the forums on the site were pretty good.

Hope this helps. On a further note, finally got the S.O.B. Crystal working can send you on some of the code + steps I followed if you want.

Mike-

I got 16 of my "S.O.B" CR :D working..found some online examples and suffered a lot thru it.. but one or 2 timeout. I wonder if it's the sql behind it , or what..

So I stopped and not sure if I should contiue or look into something else..

any thoughts..could be because of amount of data being pulled back? if so, what to do in that case?

You could be correct on the timeout errors being with the SQL, have set the timeout with the crystal reports to 240secs myself. The reporting tool at datadynamics is pretty good provided you've got the money.

Active Reports is great, I've used it and it works swell. Both with SQL and non SQL bound reports.

Currently I'm looking at ComponentOne's alternative, in order to cut back on the number of 3rd party controls we've decided to try ComponentOne's .NET Studio suite.

I searched "All Products" at Microsoft to check the cost of licensing the tool before I spend time trying it out, but it doesn't come up in either the search or by browsing all products in alphabetical order. Does anyone know how much it costs?
