Adjusting brightness/contrast of an image

I am struggling for some time, Is there a way to adjust the brightness and contrast of an image in a picture box.Any suggestions is appreciated.

Yes, I am displaying jpeg images in a picture box and want to adjust their brightness/contrast and if possible make them black and white.
