sjn78 Posted April 5, 2004 Posted April 5, 2004 To use an access database in a program, does the machine it is going to run on need at least Access Runtime? Or can i install the jet drivers from microsoft to give it connectivity to the database? The program will be for individual users (home users). I was going to just use text files to keep data, but text files are a pain to keep reading and writing data to. And MSDE is a bit of overkill for this as well. So I thought access would be easiest, as long as I can get it to work on machines without access or access runtime. Quote
Arch4ngel Posted April 5, 2004 Posted April 5, 2004 I think you can't do that. But... a try worth it no ? Administrators PlausiblyDamp Posted April 5, 2004 Administrators Posted April 5, 2004 If the client has the Microsoft Data Access components installed (get them here) then you shouldn't require the access runtime to be installed. sjn78 Posted April 5, 2004 Author Posted April 5, 2004 Thanks, I just want the program not to rely on any 3rd party software to run, except the Framework (not really 3rd party though). Quote
Arch4ngel Posted April 6, 2004 Posted April 6, 2004 Then you might use XML file. But all data are in plain text and easily editable with notepad. That's the only way I see by not relaying on third party soft (even Office). It's the easiest even compared to writing something to a text file (not XML formatted). Have fun !
