To use an access database in a program, does the machine it is going to run on need at least Access Runtime? Or can i install the jet drivers from microsoft to give it connectivity to the database?

The program will be for individual users (home users). I was going to just use text files to keep data, but text files are a pain to keep reading and writing data to. And MSDE is a bit of overkill for this as well. So I thought access would be easiest, as long as I can get it to work on machines without access or access runtime.

I think you can't do that. But... a try worth it no ? Tell us if you find something (I'm launching my search on my side)

Thanks,

I just want the program not to rely on any 3rd party software to run, except the Framework (not really 3rd party though).

Then you might use XML file. But all data are in plain text and easily editable with notepad. That's the only way I see by not relaying on third party soft (even Office).

It's the easiest even compared to writing something to a text file (not XML formatted).

Have fun !
