Folder if I am working in windows, Directory if I am in Dos or Command Line.

I think of "Folder" as being the actual object which represents the group of files, and "Directory" as being the list of files itself. "Directory" is still correct in either case, I believe.

seriously tho..

When in windows I only use folder as most people at work take it that that's the new work for directory.

when in UNIX I use directory.

I actually take them to being one in the same....

Prunes, or dried plums? Does it really matter?

Prunes or plums? They're two completely different fruits.

This poll doesn't really matter but it's a valid question and it allows us to realize how each other refers to such (important :) ) things.

eg. Do you pronouce SQL Server like so....

SQL Server

or

Sequel Server

Okay, then try going to http://www.prunes.org/ and see where it

gets you. :)

Did you have any idea that California has its own Dried Plum Board?!

I use Folder about 95% of the time. Since MS came up with the Active Directory (confusing enough in its own right!), I phased out using directory for anything but the AD.

Why only 95% then and not 100%? I still do command line and when I type "cd" or "rd" or "md", my mind says "directory".

Another poll that doesn't matter:

(2 for the price of 1 in fact)

Directory is a technical term.

Folder was the term Macintosh/Apple coined for a visual reference to a directory back when PC was still in DOS (pre-windows).

Personally I use directory, just because I remember using DOS, which usually had Directory in a command (ie, cd stood for change directory) and VB programming uses Directory, not folder.

I too have the problem with my wife (who uses Mac), when I tell her to click on the "Denaes Directory" she has no clue and I need to correct myself "Denaes Folder".
