Virtual Reality markup language or Java3D

Hey, has anyone done any vrml progrmming (Virtual Reality markup language) or Java3D and if so

(a) how did you like it and

(b) what software did you use?

I wanted to do something interesting for a web page that I am working on. And for the record yes the web page looks very very bad.

I did some VRML about 4 years ago. My experience back then was that it sucked - simply put, there was no "standard" viewer. Last time I checked (about 6 months ago) that was still the case.

Meaning, anyone viewing your page would need to install their own VRML viewer. There are two or three major ones but I had less than optimal success.

If you really need/want interactive 3D on a webpage for a wide audience, I'd look into other options. Of course, if this is only for a few friends/family or for an intranet (where you can control the software used to view your website), then it might work for you.
