i suggest that the searching be allowed to use words under 4 letters long.

it seems like it was done for a reason so, my added suggestion is that maybe, you should allow words under 4 letters on searches with 3 or more words.

i've had problems finding help on a few things in the search because of this restriction. there are many acronyms as we all know and searching for these things is very difficult to me.

i've tried doing things such as writing the all the words out and this hardly ever works because everyone uses the acronyms all the time.

i hope you will consider it,

It won't happen, as nice as that would be. Every time you make a post, the words are indexed so that the forum can search faster. Right now it only indexes words 4 chars and greater. If we made it 3 we would have to both reindex the entire forum for searching (tremendous load on the server) and it would also have to index a boat load of small words like "for" "the" etc. It's too big of a weight on the server.

However, once this forum is upgraded to vB 3.0, it is possible to assign a list of words to index regardless of lengths (such as COM, OLE, etc).

The question posed was a good one as I myself had often wondered about searching on three letters. The answer was equally well as I did not know how the forum index worked and now know something new. The answer also is great in knowing that we will eventually be able to search key three letter words.

Things just keep getting better and better here :)
