*Experts* Merrion Posted January 6, 2004 *Experts* Posted January 6, 2004 The flight from Tokyo to Washington is something like 10 hours - Jo'burg to Washington is even longer. This means that by the time they get there there's either a very sleep deprived person with a gun or at some point there has been a person asleep with a gun. Which is it? samsmithnz Posted January 6, 2004 Posted January 6, 2004 What I was wondering is if the flight crew (including attendants) knew who the macshal was, obviously they'd have to pretend to be a normal passenger right? So what happens if he happened to stand up and you saw a gun in his pocket? Sounds like a potential disaster to me. Also I assume that sleeping on the job wouldn'd be allowed. They'd be expected to stay awake, its no different from a security guard standing at a door for 10 hours. Quote Thanks Sam http://www.samsmith.co.nz
iebidan Posted January 6, 2004 Posted January 6, 2004 So, you'll have to stay awake and see who else is awake and then you'll know that he's a sky marshall??? mmmmmm, also, if I manage to get the gun inside the plane, the flight attendants will think I'm a sky marshall. I don't think so, I think the crew knows who the sky marshall is, also they might pretend to sleep or have a light sleep, I dunno, thinking that someone carries a gun in a plane makes me freak out, what happens if the gun fires by its own??? emergency landing, the people will go nuts in the plane Quote Fat kids are harder to kidnap
samsmithnz Posted January 6, 2004 Posted January 6, 2004 Why would the flight crew know? They're not at the security checkpoints... Quote Thanks Sam http://www.samsmith.co.nz
hog Posted January 6, 2004 Posted January 6, 2004 I am a firm believer that if God had intended us to fly he would have given us wings. Flying should be banned for the following reasons; Terrorists The spread of deseases The spread of undisirable persons Air pollution And worse of all.......air hostesses who seem to be on a mission to keep make up manufacturers in business! and they all seem to be stuck up their own bottoms!! OK yes yes I am a big scaredy cat who is frightened of flying, hence I alway drive from UK to Bavaria cos I luv to drive and yes I do believe it is safer! All joking aside...yes I am joking, the world would be a better place without planes, cars, buses, Tony Blair, trains and the dreaded tomato soup.....aghhh it is the devils's source! sorry...I think I lost the plot:( Quote My website
samsmithnz Posted January 6, 2004 Posted January 6, 2004 I'm from New Zealand, and I currently live in Boston, so I rely quite heavily on flying. Quote Thanks Sam http://www.samsmith.co.nz
hog Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 But wouldn't it be so much more relaxing to take a paddle steamer? Life is all too much in the fast lane these days :( Quote My website
*Experts* Nerseus Posted January 7, 2004 *Experts* Posted January 7, 2004 I can't speak for the sky marshal, but I know that most airlines will have "extra" pilots onboard lengthy flights. Pilots are expected to sleep on these long flights while the "extra" pilot takes over. I wouldn't find it hard to believe they do the same thing with sky marshals. But does this happen on every flight, or just a few here and there? No idea... -Nerseus Quote "I want to stand as close to the edge as I can without going over. hog Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 It's a sad world we live in where violence seems to be the answer to everything! Humans seem hell bend on distroying everthing they touch, including themselves:( What's wrong with everyone just getting on with their own lives, leaving others alone, have a few beers and make......mmmmm sweet lurvvvvvve:) Quote My website
iebidan Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 Well, that's just a dream, while humans can't get along with each other things will be the same, while religions keep saying the other religions are the infidels, well... Anyway Hog, flying is safer, well, safer while there's not a guy that decides to take over the plane and park it in buildings or even worst park in the middle of the city, in the meantime, flying is safer than a car. I think tomatoes soup is evil too and sky marshals do take some naps in the plane Quote Fat kids are harder to kidnap
*Experts* Bucky Posted January 8, 2004 *Experts* Posted January 8, 2004 ...have a few beers and make......mmmmm sweet lurvvvvvve:) Come to think of it, that's just what we need: drunk, co-ed pilots getting busy the cockpit. There's safety for ya. ;) Just hope they don't push the intercom button. Actually, I think Dave Barry has it covered: Statistics prove that when you're riding in a commercial aircraft seven miles above the Earth's surface, you're actually three times as safe as when you're riding in an automobile seven miles above the Earth's surface!
