antitrumpet Posted December 13, 2003 Posted December 13, 2003 I am using an image file as the background of my form, and I want to set one of the colors to be transparent. I tried using the transparency key, but this didn't work. The yellow that I used (made sure it was FFFF00 in both the image and the trans. key) was not transparent. However, when I switched Windows' color quality to 16 bit rather than 32 bit, it worked just fine. Is there any way I can get the transparency to work in 32 bit color? Quote
*Experts* mutant Posted December 13, 2003 *Experts* Posted December 13, 2003 It works for me in 32 bit mode. Quote
iebidan Posted December 14, 2003 Posted December 14, 2003 What OS you're using???? What I know is that the transparency will only work in Windows XP Quote Fat kids are harder to kidnap
*Experts* mutant Posted December 14, 2003 *Experts* Posted December 14, 2003 It should also work under Windows 2000, but not lower. Quote
antitrumpet Posted December 17, 2003 Author Posted December 17, 2003 I'm using XP pro, so *in theory* it should work. Several of my classmates had the same problem. I'm not sure what's going on. I eventually had to define my region manually. Yech! Quote
greg1205 Posted January 3, 2004 Posted January 3, 2004 Doesn't work for me, either :( I'm also having a problem with transparencies. I got it to work when I changed my display to 16 Bit from 32 (running XP pro). It did a really bad job with drop shadows, too. I tried .BMP, .GIF, .JPG, and .PNG but nothing helped. I can't have users switching displays just to view this app. Any thoughts on how to fix or work around this issue? I can('t) believe Microsoft didn't think this through... Thanks! FartNocker Posted January 3, 2004 Posted January 3, 2004 Yes there is a fix to this problem so it will work in 32 but it creates another problem Once you get it to work (look up my other thread on this for a link to the fix) everything BLACK on/In text controls will be transparent. Say you have a listbox full of text (BLACK TEXT) you will be able to see through the text, see through the little black arrows on the scroll bars, and see through the borders according to the kind of borders you have set. Of coarse you can change the text to a color other than black and change the borders. If you have a scrollBar you can still see through the little arrows on it. I worked on this for a long time trying to make it work but there is too any problems in doing so. I finally gave up on it until the next version comes out. Save yourself some time and use regular forms. But, if your like me you have to learn for yourself. If you do figure out how to keep blacks on/in text controls (this includes combo boxes also) from being transparent, please post and let me know. Good Luck, Mark Quote
