Hello,

I am building a video based in-store demo for Circut City, Best Buy etc. My videos are huge (1024 x 576 - they were shot in HD) and are encoded with the Windows Media 9 codec.

This demo will have to be able to run on any pc in the stores (WindowsXP only). I am building my installer in Installshield and have the option to foce an upgaded to DirectX 9. I only want to do this if it is going to improve Windows Media Playback performance (even a little bit).

I know that not all GPUs support DirectX 9 but I wonder if it might make a performance difference on machines that don't have a DirectX 9 capable GPU.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Thanks!

Usually every DirectX version improves performance slightly. If DirectX 9 is installed it will be used (Windows Media Player connects to DirectShow which is a DirectX API) you can get the best performance by using AudioVideoPlayback in DirectX9
