VS.NET freezing

I have vs.net 2003 installed on windows xp and lately everytime i try to compile or close vs.net, everything freezes. has this happened to anyone? i've just reformmated my computer and the only thing major i've installed besides this is office xp. i'm tearing my hair out over this. HELP!!!!!
