My company wants to develop an app that will be widely distributed. For some reason they want to use Director over VB.NET. They are somewhat biased because they don't know much about vb. Is there anyone who knows Director enough, to give me a feel for the advantages of .NET?

The app to develop does not need to be webable. Is going to use animations from StudioMax, will need a database supporting it, etc.

What kinds of programmers do you currently have? Do most of them already know Director? If so, I wouldn't suggest switching unless there's a good reason to.

You mention distribution. Is that the main issue, or are there other factors?

Yes, we have two Director programmers, and I'm the only VB programmer. I happen to be very busy and the others not quite as much.

Interesting that you say not to switch unless there are other factors. I guess I just don't consider Director as a real programming language. Especially when it comes to populating databases, networking with other computers, and even security issues. But then again I don't know much about it. I always considered it like creating a presentation that happened to have logic behind it vs. creating a rugged app. The only other factors I can think if would be support and upgrades. Maybe additional modules over time.
