Securing a Web Service

I realize this is a very broad topic. That is why I want to cut through the fat and get to the bottom line. I have a web service that I want to advertise to my clients but I want it to be available only to them and I want to track the incoming hits and differentiate who they are coming from.

What can be done?

IIS should be able to handle this, but since the web servies rely on the http protocol, you'll have access to the HttpContext Class.
