rebuilding an installation

When creating an installer for a vb net application, is it necessary to delete the previous directory structure before rebuiling the installer?

I tried doing a rebuild of the installer, after first rebuilding the application, and the re-build process indicates a successful rebuild. However, running the installation results in a re-install of the old version.

Are you running the program in the obj\Debug or bin, the new compilation is Bin (I think) try changing the version numbers and rebuilding to see which one changes
