hi all.

just wanted to know, if there are any bigger differences between the old vb-versions and the new .NET version. could i say that .NET is simpy version 7 of visual basic, or is it something completely different? can i work with .NET with my old knowledge about vb4-6?

thx for answers.

You could say it's both version 7 of VB and completely different. This question has been asked over and over and over again.

Did you read the FAQ at the top of this forum?

It's best to assume it is nothing at all like any previous version of VB, and then to be pleasantly surprised on those rare occasions when it actually is :)

Good one, divil :-)

Yes. It is the same language after all, but it is an entirely new concept. You will hardly be able to recycle *any* code, and you will have a hard time relying on your experience with vb6 only.

vb.net is (finally) a full grown object oriented language. If you are coming from classical procedural programming with the one or the other eventhandler or class here and there ... then there is a long road ahead.

ok

ok thx, i'll read the faq.
but a short question before this: if i have only small experiences in vb4 and only wanna start learning a programming language, then vb .net is a good choice for me, or should i try something else, maybe try to find vb6?
