Hey,
apparently my dad now wants to use my computer, and he wants an admin account -> this enables him to be able to mess with my account and install programs on it => spyware/adware.. last time i gave him an account I got about 3 different viruses..

Is there any way I can make him a 'limted admininstrator' -> I want his name tag to say "Administrator" or "Admin", and he wants to be able to program in .net (limited users aren't allowed to)

im only doin this so that my comp doesnt get messed,
and he wants an admin account by 8:00 today..
can someone please help me out?

thanks a ton,
pent

Well actually an administrator account will give any person almost full control over the computer.
But remember that Windows XP handles this with profiles, not all your stuff will be messed up, only a few, also you can handle permission using the local policy manager under Control Panel -> Administrative Tools, tell there what you want his account be able to do. Also, I can't imagine here in the company my team having admin privileges over the computers and network, not, that's not true, a limited account (normal user) can develop, the only thing is add him to the debuggers group, a group created by .NET.
But dude, he's your dad, you can't tell him what to do or not, I'll recommend you to back up your stuff and let him work on the computer.

Cheers

You're the best iebidian,
I messed with it enough such that it says "Unknown Account Type" rather than limited.
Now I gotta make it say "Computer Administrator" (best alternate to 'administrator' which is already taken) -> any ideas?

Try downloading Spybot, update its adware definitions and then make it immunize your system. I did it on my father's computer here. Of course you´ll have to check it every once in a while, but you´ll feel calmer.

Yeah, i use AdAware and it works fine for me, (ive tried all the good programs, including spybot, adaware and bps spyware remover, but most spyware is undeletable - it just finds the instances or whatever and deletes em, for some reason if i scan again (with whatever program) it comes back. no idea - but i've kept my new comp clean of any spyware i scan every week or so and i never find any..

im not sure bout what'll happen after 8 tonite tho ;).

I guess you don't want your father finding your porn? :) For this reason I always recommend parents and children having seperate computers! :D

I'm an elite hax0r.

If you edit the post quick enough it doesn't show the 'edited by ....' thing. Designed for when you spot typos as soon as you hit submit - god knows I've done it often enough myself.
