Is it true that you cannot use session variables on web app with with web farms

Is it true that you cannot use session variables on web app with with web farms. IE I my app uses three tiers. If I put each tier on its own server will session vars still work. And if not what would be a work-around.

.Net supports a more scalable session architecture - it allows session variables to be stored in either a state server or a Sql server. This does allow it to be used in a web farm.
