What does it do? I am working on a tweak program. I notice if I do the reg hack, the tweak works. If I have set it in gpedit.msc before, the reg hack doesn't work.

For example, the hack to show/hide shared documents in my computer is adding or deleting a key. It work good. But if I go into gpedit.msc and set it to show or hide shared documents, the reg hack doesn't work anymore. It always does whatever gpedit.msc says.

It probably either puts the entry back or does not use it at all. Have you checked to see if the entry is back after the program is run?

gpedit is the Group Policy Editor, basically an administrative tool allowing admins to define settings and configuration on a PC or user basis that will automatically be applied when the PC boots up or the user logs in, overriding the registry settings, but also be removed when the user logs out / PC shuts down.

It is an advance on System Policies which shipped pre Win2k / XP, they had a similar idea but updated the regisrty, this caused problems as when a user logged out the system policy wasn't removed.
