"Fixed" First Column

Does anyone know how to "fix" the first column of the datagrid? I remember using splits in the old vb 6 datagrid, but how can I do this in .Net?

I need to somehow fix the text in the first row so that it doesn't scroll with the rest of the grid.
Another solution I thought of is can you put text in the recordselectors row? Does anyone know a way to do this?
