Everything is out of control of our hands

I have a quick question:

I don't mean to be rebellious, and if I seem to be, I'm sorry - but why did we give our site over to iNET?

Ever since the switch, I've seen numerous forum bugs that are out of our control. iNET should at least give us a copy of their source code for each MessageBoard (for example, 1 for XVBP and 1 for XDNT) so that we can use it to fix up our forums.

They don't seem to be doing anything about anything.. ya know? I mean if they won't fix their problems, why cant we fix it ourselves. If we screw up the source(knowing you guys, we wont :)), its our forum that's goign to be messed since its a copy of the source just for our servers.

Have any other forums complained? Seriously lol. Is it just our forum? (I hope not, so that we all can address the issues)

It wasn't given to them, it was sold by the original owner who no longer felt he could continue supporting it as well as iNET could. In retrospect, this was perhaps not the case, but then again hindsight is always 20/20.

Anyway I don't really know what you mean by "our" forums, since both XVBT and XDNT are owned and operated (and hosted) by iNET. They are separate boards as far as source code goes, so one change does not affect the other.

Anyway, it's best to let the admins handle this sort of thing. We will try to keep you updated on the status of the site.

I remember at the time there was a drive to get users to help pay for ugrades... mySQL was too buggy - or we were hitting a bug dead on continiously, so we needed SQL Server.

There was a pledge drive then iNet offered to add the forums into their fold.

I find this preferrable to not having the forums. Most things are just a little annoying except for the whole code brakets problems. In a programming forum it's a bit more than a nusance to have pages of sourcecode displayed oddly.

If you really want to rebel, you could find out where iNet is located and hire out Guatamalan Gurillas and lead your crack team into iNet headquarters and literally pirate all of their source :D

Once you're done, either in jail or successful I'll tell you that you did a good job and it was cool :)

Keeping forum members updated..

Thanks VolteFace for your reply as well as for all the work you and other admin types have done.

I stop by this forum every once and a while and I really notice the improvements, but I do wish this site and all the iNet sites (XVBT) kept some kind of change log or maybe "issue-waiting-resolution" log so people like me who only stop by once and a while can see what changes (php, etc) were made, issues resolved, and so forth.

People like the starter of this thread, I think, just get frustrated because so much stuff happens behind the scenes with little or no notice of the progress being made and such a change log would go a long way to alleviate the impression that nothing seems to be happening (a lot of the time).

But from reading the other thread:

...maybe the lines of communication with the iNet people will not allow this.

I split a portion of this discussion into a private forum, since it does not directly concern the general public. Everyone else, it would be appreciated if the subject was left alone for now.

Just to let everyone know, a lot of this stuff has been brought to iNET's attention now and is being implemented. I think the
Visual Basic:
tags work fully and the sidebar has been altered to be programming related. We apologize for how long this has taken. It seems there was some kind of communications breakdown along the way.

Thanks for your patience.

Great to see things are being worked out. I know I went to their page and wrote a letter about how things were being overlooked. I think the admins here do a great job with what they can do. This is a great forum and would love to see it grow more.
