Disable panel but enable fields in panel

I just switched over to vb.net. In vb, i was able to place textboxes and labels into a frame, disable the frame, and have all the fields in the frame disabled while keeping the labels and the text in the fields black, red, or whatever color it was supposed to be. However, it's not working the same in vb.net. It grays everything while i'd rather have it the color i want it. Is there a way to make it similar to what it was in vb? My main goal is to disable fields and make it as visible as possible and the gray is too light. a darker gray would be okay but i'd prefer to make everything black. Suggestions?

Someone put this link on another thread the other day
http://www.syncfusion.com/FAQ/WinForms/default.asp#94

I haven't tested it myself, but there is a tip (# 27.16)
about using colour in a textboxes that aren't enabled.

just got around to testing the VB .NET code tip, & it appears to be a dud.
Sorry! :(
Maybe someone else can get it to work?
