Can DirectX be a main forum?

I know the forum isn't very popular, but having it a sub-forum of Graphics doesn't make much sense to me. After all, DirectX does include more then just graphics (such as Music and Input).

Perhaps when (or if) the DirectX forum becomes more popular, you could break it down into subforums of Direct3D, DirectDraw, DirectInput and DirectPlay.

I was just thinking about this yesterday, and I have to say I agree. It also makes it harder to tell if there's a new post in the Graphics forum, as new DX posts make the "new posts" indicator light up. I'll discuss it with the other moderators. However, I dislike subforums, and I don't think a whole DirectPlay, DirectSound, etc breakdown is necessary.

I would very much like to see a directX forum. Also a forum designed to help people learn how to take the Graphics and Directx codeing and create games would be. Well like the coolest place on the web. Well actually that is just my opinion, but any thing that would help one on the way to becoming a real programer that would be it.

There is a DirectX forum. It's inside the Graphics forum. A games forum is not needed. All aspects of game programming can be broken down into other categories.

I'd be more agreeing to renaming the "Graphics" forum to "Media". That would solve the problem in one false swoop and wouldn't add another forum to the main page. It would also eliminate the similarities and overlap that would exist with both the current "Graphics" forum and a new "DirectX" forum.

Could we still make DirectX the main forum? (I realize that this post is old :P),
it seems as though the forum has been 'booming' lately :D.

Booom! Im here....

I think it would own because, I don't like directX associated with GDI+ anyways. DirectX is just so much damn faster. ;)

I renamed that forum to "Graphics and Multimedia" for now, so at least DirectX "belongs" there. I think we should try and stay away from making the home page any longer, though one of the other staff members may disagree.

Talking about me :) ? I don't think DirectX needs its own category right now, but it certainly is getting closer to that point. I think we need to base our main categories on what seems to be a popular/important topic. Managed DirectX is certainly getting more and more popular amongst developers. There is more and more tutorials, more and more engines popping out, etc. So in my opinion, sometimes soon it might be a good idea to make Managed DirectX its own forum. Also one more thing, for now I think it would be a good idea to change the name of the subforum from "DirectX" to "Managed DirectX" to prevent one-time posters posting questions about "normal" (:)) DirectX, which happened a few times. It is not that I don't like unmanaged DirectX but most of people that frequent this forum want to discuss Managed DirectX, which after all is the .NET way.
