Charcters in MAX 5

Hey... I have another question. On a tutorial online, I saw that in MAx 5, there is a feature called Character Studio that comes with the program. Does anyone know where it is located and how to use it? Another thing is that, how does one go about making characters in Max 5 anyway. Thanks in advance

Hello,
anyway im new to the interface and layout of 3ds MAX 5, and would like to know if any of you know any good books/tutorials to help me out. Theres a book at borders called Harnessing 3ds max 5, and i was wondering if any of u have that, or know of it is it any good? Any other recommendations would be good too. Also, does any one have some good BEGINNING tutorials that they could offer? Basically, I just need some help starting out, and a few textures that I could use (free ones if possible)

Thankx

I don't believe 3DS Max 5 comes with Character Studio but it's a fairly essential add-on if you're doing character animation. The full version runs around $1000 while 3DS 5 is a little over $3000.

yes it does

well, actually character studio is installed when you install 3ds max, it has full funcionality but it will run just for 30 day, after that you have to buy the license to keep it working.

As for how do you access it from the 3ds max UI, well, go to the create panel and then click on the "system" icon, you'll see several buttons on that panel, click where it says biped, and as soon as you do it, you'll be prompTed to chosse if you want to run character studio in trial mode or in full version mode, click the trial mode option, (unless you have 1,000 bucks sitting on your bank account), and you'll be ready to use it.

Character studio is mainly, an animation tool, it's a group of bones already rigged for you,(so you don't have to pass hours on that painfull proces), and almost ready for animation, you still have to customize the skeleton according to your needs and skin your mesh to the biped skeleton.

But if you are willing to expend some money in an animation tool for 3ds max, i would choose Motion Builder instead, a lot more powerfull and almost the same price.

I'm not an expert on 3ds max yet, but i do have experience working with it and i'm pretty familiar with it, i have modeled several characters and other stuff already and i do have some experience with animation and fx on max, so if i can help you in something, just ask and i'll try my best.

below is the character that i'm working on right now.

That looks pretty darn good to me. Could use some tweaking so he doesn't look like a doll (unless he's supposed to).. but still, very good.

THANK YOU SO MUCH

thankx for all ur help :) ... by the way, where could i find Motion Builder?

mhh

the space wrappers in 3ds max, are a group of effects that you can use to add some enviroment forces (wind, gravity, explosions, etc.) with them you can create several effect like twisters, fish schools, leaves that are being blowed by the air, explosions, etc.
They are most commonly used with particle systems rather than with actual geometry.

Well that's what i've learned by some reading and some personal experience, but the aplications for space wrappers might go even further.

hope i answered your question.

thats cool but how am i supposed to put them to use? the tutorials that came with max dint say anything about that, (or mabye i didnt look hard enough). If u have any files that u have which include spacwarps can u post them, so i can take a look?

If rohankk54 has a licensed copy then he paid some good money for it - why uninstall it because I asked a simple question? If it's his dad's or someone else's then it's their license, not his.

I feel the pain of wanting software but it's too expensive. We use Er/Win at work for database modelling and due to its $3500+ price tag per user, we have only one copy for our DBA. The rest of us get printoffs that he has to print. But that's the way it goes, unfortunately.

And just because you *can* find software for "free" by downloading it, you shouldn't. If you found a car with the keys in it you wouldn't think about jumping in and taking it anywhere - the same should be true for software especially since we're all developers here and we want to make money, too.

There are lots of great tools that are free for modelling in 3D. And many software companies offer free trials of their software and discounted versions for students. There are always options to stealing, which should never be an option.

A guy walks into his psychiatrist and says "doc, two nights ago I dreamt I was wigwam then last night I dreamt I was a teepee. What's up?" The Dr. says "You're too tense". Me, I dream of software - I'm not tense. Weird maybe, but not tense :)

As was already pointed out, this is a .NET forum, not a 3D Studio Max forum.

Everyone has had the opportunity to state their opinion, and although I would like to state mine, in would not help the siuation any by doing so.

You all know where we stand on the issue, and that seems to be enough.

Case closed, and so is the thread.
