  1. I believe what you are looking for is: variableID = Me.BindingContext(Me.DataSet, "Table1").Current("id") Me.BindingContext(Me.DataSet, "Table1") is not the same as Me.BindingContext(Me.DataSet.Table1), and will be different binding contexts
