Hi all I have a password field in my page, along with multiple other fields. When I click the next button, I automatically validate all the validators. However if one of the validators returns false, the data in my password field is cleared. Is there any way to hold on to that information in the field. I am going to look at using the Attribute of the field. Mike55.

In my Application I make changes to some parameters in App.Config file. In the next method I try to read the parameters to show the changed values to the user. If I manually open the config file I see the changes but, the application is not able to see the changed variables. It is always showing the previous values. But, If I close and restart the application, then new values are seen. What am I missing, an how to show the new values.

The AJAX "Top 5" security tips: To succeed - you must start with good planning. Efforts should be focussed on reducing and simplifying the AJAX calls, and creating a standard format for responses that follows convention (ideally XML) where possible. Follow best practice from sites such as the Open Web Application Security Project. This especially includes checking for Access Control and Input Validation flaws, whilst ensuring sensitive information travels over SSL rather than in the clear. Never assume that Server Side AJAX checks for Access Control or User Input Validation will replace the need for final re-checking at the Server. Adding AJAX controls will ne…

I have a database datatable that I will be changing alot and don't wont to worry about declaring new BoundFields and Update statements in the Gridview. So how do you suggest I dynamically build update statements? Should I loop through the Fields of the DataTable schema to create the parameters and SQL statement? The SQLDatasource has automatic UPDATE statement generator but you have to create it each time, right? I'm new so if this is a stupid question please explain why.

I have been doing some research on the matter and I think it is safe to say that no matter what source code control system you may be using, the one thing that doesn't fit in it directly is the actual database. I have read some suggestions that you put the scripts that it takes to create the database, tables, view, stored procedures, etc. under source control instead. This does make sense to me and it is something that I am very willing to do. My question on the matter is one of seeking the best approach to do it. By that I mean, would I have one large document file with all the t-sql commands for creating tables, a second document for stored procedures, etc. or w…

Hi, I'm using AxWebBrowser to display PDF documents. When I shut my PC down it says their are still PDF documents open. I'm disposing AsWebBrowser when the application quits but this doesn't seem to be disposing of the PDF's it's navigated to. Any ideas? Cheers Tim

There are two things I really like about Visual Studio 2003 (I assume that they exist in 2005 as well): 1. Creating a relational dataset as a .xsd (I think, the xml schema document) and 2. Using that schema to do data entry like it was a real database. I have yet to find anything that does these functions outside of Visual Studio. Any chance that they're standalone exe's on the CD/DVD? Or something just like them by Microsoft? Or anyone else really? This app XMLSpy is freeware and it seems that anything that might make it more than a text editor with fancy formatting and validation checking is in the $$$ enterprise studio version... which really, I could just use v…

Hey all, once again I'm experimenting with new toys - this time directDraw. I'm creaing a game which - naturally - begins with a nice intro before hitting the title screen. Problem is, it currently just jumps from the last frame of the intro to the title. I'm thinking of implementing a 'fade to black' effect to smooth the transition, but I don't know how to adjust the brightness on the primary buffer. Any ideas how I could go about this? I know how I would go about the timing, it's just the command to darken the buffer that's unknown to me. Thanks!

Hi All, I am trying to paint a sequence of images on a usercontrol using the CSharp Graphics() object and this usercontrol is embedded in a windows forms application. The image painting part of it works fine but the screen(monitor) seems to flicker every once in a while. It looks like its being forced to refresh periodically by the application. Here is the code: Bitmap bm = new Bitmap(BMImageBuffer); GLiveGraphics.DrawImage(bm,destRect,srcRect,GraphicsUnit.Pixel); The drawing in continuously done by a drawing thread..at the rate of 10-15 FPS. I tried setting double-buffering options-it only prevented flicker inside the control but not the entire screen refr…

I have been going back on forth on a design issue. I have a helpdesk solution used by our company that is simply a VB client & a SQL backend that runs on our LAN. I am attempting to rewrite it in 2005 (from 2003) to learn more about the new 2.0 framework and whatnot. My question is, what is a more efficient way for concurrent users to communicate when the add/edit/delete tickets? Currently I have a timer control that fires off every X minutes to query the DB and look at the update date on the record. Anything new/updated/deleted gets returned in a disconnected recordset and I process this on the client making the appropiate changes to the ticket listing. It w…

From my experience in web development most developers keep the query string variables unsecured which will lead into lots of security risks. I have created three functions that will cover the above issue and make sure all your query string variables are secured. Get Source Code

I use a user id and password in my web.config. I do not want the password to be plain text, and would like to encrypt it. I know you can use the ASP.NET_setreg encryption exe to encrypt it in the registry. However, is there a way to input the username and password in my C# .cs file and apss this into the web.config? TIA.

I have a ASP.NET web application written in C#. THe events (buttons, dropdown) worked when I had my machine as the webhost; however, when I deployed the web app to the web server, none of the events are working. My dropdown list is not being populated nor are my buttons working. When I try to click a button, I get this in the URL: http://webserver.page.aspx?__EVENTTARGET=&__EVENTARGUMENT=&__LASTFOCUS=&__VIEWSTATE=%2FwEPDwUKLTc3MzM4NTUwNQ9kFgICAQ9kFgQCAQ8QZA8WAWYWARBlZWcWAWZkAgQPEGQPFgFmFgEQZWVnFgFmZBgBBR5fX0NvbnRyb2xzUmVxdWlyZVBvc3RCYWNrS2V5X18WAQUMSW1hZ2VCdXR0b24x&DropDownList1=&DropDownList2=&Button1=Approved+Master+Bond+List&__EVENTVALIDA…

Always when I download a sample application, it has a App_Code dir and other parts for a project but no VS Solution file. So, I copy files to another test application, which causes conflictions (such as web.config). What's a better way to practice with a sample app?

The solution is to implement your own HTTP Module and determine the allow / deny security based upon the roles attribute in the Web.sitemap file. This works in conjunction with ASP.NET 2.0's built-in security. Add the following code to your web.config file inside the <system.web> node. This will allow you to intercept requests to all pages before processing, allowing you to force the Web.sitemap security. <httpModules> <add name="SecurityHttpModule" type="Joel.Net.SecurityHttpModule" /></httpModules> Here's the code that performs all the magic... I have been strugeling with creating a solid circle for a week now. Is there no easy way? This is a small piece of my code. It draws circles on my back buffer, which I switch to screen. This works well! I am using Directx for speed. backbuffer.DrawCircle(curx, cury, Radius) But I need solid circles, how do I do it? I can't use a bitmap because I need to vary the size of the circle. I am not a vary good programer but can kind of muddle my way thru examples, but I cant find any examples that are basic enough for me to understand. I am using VBnet 2005 pro. Thank you!!!!
